Happy New Year!

I really love the excitement of back to school. It was sad to bid my amazing summer farewell, but the promise of fall, new public health students to meet, hearing about my classmates' internship experiences, and getting reacquainted with my planner.....thrill the type-a, social side of me!

There is a new and very exciting course that I will be a part of this year, and a vehicle for making one of my dreams a reality. Miriam Labbok and others at the Carolina Breastfeeding Institute have developed a program that will prepare me (and 5 of my classmates) with didactic and clinical training to become a lactation consultant! I'll sit for the exam in July and obtain the ultimate breastfeeding credential (IBCLC), 2nd to actually being a breastfeeding mom, but hopefully I'll get there as well one day.

My new roommate, Juliana, and I hosted a delightful potluck this week. I contributed a blueberry peach pie that was divine! Local, organic blueberries and peaches made this a new favorite dessert. Make one for yourself!
